How to prepare for verbal ability ?

The IPMAT exam can be broken down into two major sections – one that tests quantitative abilities and another that assesses verbal abilities. A lot of students struggle with the latter. The verbal abilities section is difficult to tackle because it is not something that you can practice a lot for right before the exam; developing verbal skills requires long-term efforts.

I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of reading; the best way to learn a language is to read it. Be it story books, articles, blog posts, editorials, newsletters, or anything that strikes your fancy, keep reading. But do not read passively – search up the meaning of difficult words, try to understand the overall theme, and ask yourself questions. Active and deep reading makes you so familiar with the language that any verbal ability test becomes much easier and you develop intuitions regarding the language.

Though reading is a long-term process, there is no better time to start than now. With the IPMAT date approaching closer, pick up a book or magazine that interests you. Reading articles and newsletters will not only help you with the verbal abilities section but also make you well-informed for your interviews.
Moreover, students often feel pressed for time during the verbal abilities test. A solution to this could be to give mock tests in order to learn how to pace yourself appropriately and also to become more familiar with the question patterns.

Keep these tips in mind and all the best!
